How to Add Content to My UW-Madison

Departments and groups may request that their content be added to My UW. The portal is comprised of many modules and features. Each of these was developed for a particular department or audience. Much, but not all, of the integration development was done by DoIT. We are actively seeking ideas for new content and features.

If your department or office would like to add an application or content to My UW-Madison, please use the feedback form. You may also work with the DoIT manager or technologist with whom you are accustomed.

Here is a list of questions to consider before adding new content to My UW-Madison:

  • Purpose of the request?
  • What is the source application system (Payroll, etc.)?
  • Has the application been reviewed for accessibility issues?
  • Is the application currently using NetID login authentication or some other form of authentication?
  • Who are the target recipients (student, faculty, staff, instructors, advisors, applicants, etc.)? (Only for those with access to My UW-Madison)
  • What unique recipient identifier (ID, PersonID, SSN) will be used?
  • Will data contain sensitive information that will be displayed in the portal? - If YES, what is the information? Ex: SSN, PhotoID#
  • Are there any known privacy or security considerations?
  • Are there any special requirements for look and feel within the portal?
  • Where would you like to present this information within the portal?
  • Will test data be provided for development of the application and for other testing purposes?
  • How will you announce this new service? E.g. Wisconsin Week, DoIT home page, My UW login page)
  • Do you plan to support your application with the portal or will you need assistance from the DoIT Help Desk?
  • What is the preferred target date for initial delivery?
