What does the service offer?

The DoIT Web Hosting Service provides a production web publishing environment for UW-Madison departments. Our servers are dedicated web servers and we maintain the hardware and software. In addition, we perform maintenance, backups, upgrades, log processing, performance monitoring, and security reviews.

bronze Bronze service features:

  • 50 MB of production disk space
  • Secure FTP access to web server
  • Test and production web sites
  • Complete service documentation and technical support.

silver Silver service features:

  • All Bronze service features +
  • 250 MB of production disk space
  • Free domain: yoursite.wisc.edu
  • Scripting available if checked or written by DoIT

gold Gold service features:

  • All Silver service features +
  • 1000 MB/1Gig of production disk space
  • Three additional logins
  • Scripting available to DoIT and non DoIT developed applications  

Supported optional features available at no additional charge:

  • Search index
  • Web Form processor (e.g. user input to a form sent as formatted e-mail messages)
  • Analog Web Statistics
  • Password Protection

Scripting policy:

NOTE: The departmental web hosting team has implemented a new Plesk based LAMP environment (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) A pilot offering is now available. If interested please contact the Web Hosting Service Team.
  • We host DoIT developed or reviewed applications starting at the Silver Service level. We host customer written CGI, PHP and Active Server Pages (ASP) for Gold Service Level accounts.
  • The service currently hosts web sites on Linux/Apache and Windows/IIS platforms. Windows/IIS web sites can script with ASP and either utilize an Access DB located within the site or partner with DoIT and connect to an Oracle DB provided by the DoIT DRMT group. The Linux/Apache platform allows for PHP, CGI scripting and also the ability to partner with DoIT to connect to an Oracle DB provided by DRMT.
  • DoIT's Application Development and Integration creates a wide variety of custom web applications for the University community. Questions?
